About the Role

Disability Support Workers are employed to provide care, supervision and support for people with disabilities. This can be in the home, established residential houses, clinics, hospitals and in the community. This support can be on an individual basis, or in a group setting. Disability Support Workers aim to maximise the individual’s physical and mental wellbeing through providing companionship and emotional support, and where possible, promoting independence and community participation.

Participant Support:

• Work collaboratively with participants to understand their NDIS plans, goals, and aspirations.

• Provide support that aligns with the principles of choice, control, and individualization.

• Support clients to participate in age-appropriate activities and tasks including employment, in-home support and community access.

• Provide direct care assistance to each client in accordance with their service plan and as directed by the Manager, including domestic duties such as meal preparation and cleaning.

• Monitor the safety and well-being of the clients and report any concerns to the Manager

• Promote independence in daily tasks and routines.

• Assist participants with activities of daily living, personal care, and mobility as outlined in their NDIS plan such as washing, dressing, eating, transport and budgeting.

• Provide in-home support with health issues and daily living tasks!

• Liaise with healthcare professionals as needed.

• Work in accordance with the medication administration policy, work health and safety procedures and client right’s policies including privacy and confidentiality.

• Implement strategies and interventions outlined in participants' NDIS plans to help them achieve their goals.

Community Engagement:

• Support participants in accessing and participating in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities.

• Encourage any community Engagement.

• Encourage community inclusion and facilitate connections.

Advocacy

• Advocate for participants' rights and preferences within the NDIS framework.

• Communicate effectively with NDIS coordinators, families, and other stakeholders.

• Liaise with healthcare professionals as needed.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of support provided and ensure documented it Shift care every shift.

• Complete required documentation, including progress reports and incident reports.

Training and professional Development:

• Stay informed about NDIS policies, procedures, and updates.

• Engage in relevant training and professional development opportunities.

Indigeekare Services is an independently owned and operated not-for-profit Aboriginal Organization proudly supporting the community by providing a wide range of services such as, disability supports, personal care, daily living, cleaning, support coordination, behaviour supports, yard & garden maintenance, age care, cultural mentoring, early intervention, community access, justice, day programs, men’s and women’s groups, traditional dance group, youth hub and a community shed we service any clients that are needing supports in the Ovens and Murray areas. Many of our clients are differently abled, socially isolated, financially disadvantaged or exposed to other socio-economic vulnerabilities. Our Organisation was incorporated on the 13/9/2021 the head office is in Wodonga Victoria.
